About Me as an Astrologer
My mother had a serious car accident when I was young. I felt the fragility of life and wished to predict the future. I occasionally heard about astrology’s predicting power at 13. I spent three months after class finishing all the information on astrology in Chinese available on the Internet (Chinese is my first language, and my English level was only elementary at age 13). This move ignited my curiosity towards everything.
As I progressed, I found astrology was not reliable in its contemporary use. After a long exploration period of different schools of astrology, I finally settled down on traditional astrology (Hellenistic astrology to be specific). I testified astrological doctrine by quantitative method, including statistical tools to verify the correlation, and control variates method to observe the effect of a single significator. On the contrary to popular belief, I am satisfied with the predicting power of traditional astrology.
My spiritual experience also inspired me that there are many people who are psychologically fragile and need help. I have provided free astrological consultation services to more than 200 people who need help. Up to now, I still don’t have a plan to commercialize my passion for astrology but intend to voluntarily help those who need help. If you need my help, feel free to leave me a message.
About Astrology
Astrology is the study of the relationship between celestial objects and human affairs. Astrology originated in the 3rd century BC at the latest in presumably Babylon and reached its peak during the Hellenistic world of Greece and Egypt before the 7th century. Many traditional doctrines were lost after the Hellenistic period. Despite later Medieval and Renaissance astrology, astrology declined dramatically because of the development of modern technology after the 17th century.
Astrology is NOT 12 horoscope signs. When some people talk about “What’s your sign?”, they are not talking about real astrology, but only a very simplified version of Sun sign, which is a superficial spin-off of the astrological zodiac. And zodiac is only one component, among other more important ones, in real astrology.
In the late 19th century when scientific methods became widely adopted, astrology was categorized as pseudoscience. However, one should know that most of the traditional doctrines of astrology were lost when astrology was categorized as a pseudoscience. Although I agree that the simplified version of Sun sign astrology is pseudoscience, I would argue that people who say that astrology is pseudoscience do not understand what real and complete astrology is.
About My Astrological Techniques
Subdivisions. I practice all major subdivisions of astrology: natal (the study of an individual’s personality and life), mundane (the study of world affairs and events), horary (to answer a specific question), and electional (to decide the most auspicious time for an event). Among these subdivisions, I spend more time in natal astrology.
Schools. I extensively use traditional techniques in all of the major subdivisions of astrology, with an emphasis of Hellenistic techniques. However, regarding timing in natal astrology, I will also consider modern techniques. I will further discuss the timing below.
Timing. For natal timing, I found the primary direction (including circumambulation) and secondary progression are most powerful. In addition, I also supplement them with tertiary progression and zodiacal releasing. I understand there are many other “time lord” techniques in Hellenistic astrology, but empirical experience told me they are not as powerful as primary direction and secondary progression.
The choice of zodiac. During my many years’ experience, I practiced both tropical and sidereal zodiacs. By comparing two zodiacs, I favor the sidereal zodiac, but I respect your choice of the zodiac if you have your reasons for your choice. Unless specified, all charts are cast in the sidereal zodiac (Krishnamurti ayanamsha). I remembered that when I was a beginner in astrology, I automatically avoided articles and discussions if their charts were cast in the sidereal zodiac; it was until the last few years that I discovered the power of sidereal zodiac. I suggested you not do what I did earlier because it’s always better to open your mind to different opinions. And after all, there are so many zodiac-independent techniques that I use in my articles.
House system. I use Placidus and Topocentric most frequently, and also Regiomotanous / Alcabitius according to the tradition in certain situations. I like the simplicity of the whole sign house system, and I recognize it is the “default setting” for Hellenistic astrology; however, my empirical experience in primary directions shows the strong power of angles and even house cusps, making me relying on the quadrant house system more. I will elaborate on my experience in my future blog posts.
About this Blog
The goals of my astrology blog are two-fold:
- As you can see from my above introduction, although I use Hellenistic methods in my chart analysis, I give as much attention to the empirical results as to theories (e.g. sidereal vs tropical, and quadrant vs WSH). I would like to share my empirical learning with other astrologers, and we can have a platform to discuss some controversial topics.
- Studying astrology is not easy for me. I am really passionate about astrology and spend a lot of time on it. In my journey of learning astrology, I found many astrology forums and blogs very helpful, and I would like to express my gratitude to them. I really hope to give something back to the community in return, so I set up this blog to share my astrological knowledge. Just as those blogs from notable astrologers helped me to build my expertise, I also hope my blog can help some beginners.
