This is the first post on my astrology blog. As an astrologer focusing on natal delineation and predictive techniques, I have been thinking about who I should analyze first. This week I happened to read the news on this year’s richest person in the world. So here we go.
In Forbes list of the world’s billionaires in 2020, Jeff Bezos ranks first in the 3rd consecutive year. According to Wikipedia, Bezos is an American internet entrepreneur, industrialist, media proprietor, and investor. He is best known as the founder, CEO, and president of the multinational technology company Amazon.
This first post will analyze his natal chart by traditional techniques, mostly Hellenistic techniques.
Bezos’s Birthtime
Bezos was born on January 12, 1964. His birthtime is not available in Astrodatabank. Another website, Astrotheme, gives 11:33 AM without source. There are several astrologers using this time. However, Isaac Starkman rectified it to 15:52:08 MST. After carefully checking the major events in Bezos’s life, which I’ll explain in detail in my next post, I am confident to conclude that Starkman’s 3:52 PM is correct and accurate.

Jupiter is the captain of the chart
Both Lights are in Sagittarius, Jupiter’s domicile. Jupiter also has rulership on Ascendant and Fortune by term. Itself occupies the 10th image and the 10th quadrant house. Therefore, Jupiter is the kurios, i.e. the captain of the chart.
According to Firmicus Maternus,
Those who have Jupiter as ruler of the chart are always trustworthy, of high spirit, and are impelled toward great deeds. … Commanding in all their acts, noble, famous, honorable, lovers of luxury, cheerful, …
This delineation fits Bezos very well.
Usually, the captain of the chart has something to do with the native’s social status. In Bezos’s case, Jupiter is at the angle and its domicile, and receives both Lights. I would say any of these conditions can increase his eminence. So overall, Jupiter gives Bezos Lots of advantages pursuing rank and fame. There are more indicators in the chart that confirm and reinforce his social status. I’ll discuss them later in this post.
Academic Excellence and Business Talent
Usually, the significator of profession is taken from the three swift planets. Mercury is his significator of the profession, because it is angular (exact on the Descendant to be specific) and it has power in the Ascendant.
Mercury is visible. Although it is subtracting the number, it is regarded by both Lights, so it is still strong. Mercury is received by the dignified Jupiter so Mercury is also very benefic.
Such a strong and resourceful Mercury contributes to his academic excellence and business talent. Bezos graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University. Later, he worked on Wall Street and eventually founded Amazon.
Social Status
Sun is the sect light in very good conditions: in hayz, in its own trigon, and received by its domicile lord. All of its three trigon lords have some dignities, and two of them are angular. Following the Hellenistic doctrine, I would say the native will have high eminence. In Hellenistic astrology, eminence refers to not only the high rank of the native in the society but also a huge impact on society. Indeed, according to Wikipedia, Amazon is the largest Internet company by revenue in the world, the second-largest private employer in the United States, and one of the world’s most valuable companies.
Valens also emphasizes Fortune in the assessment of eminence. Under Krishnamurti ayanamsha, the zodiac measurement that I use, Fortune falls in Taurus, with its lord falls in 10th image from it, signifying good fortune and high eminence.
Wealth
Vettius Valens, a Hellenistic astrologer, always considered the Fortune and its lord as indicators of prosperity. As I mentioned above, Lord of Fortune is found culminating from Lot of Fortune. In addition, Lord (Venus) is in conjunction with the Lord’s lord (Saturn). Although this conjunction is out-of-sign, I still consider it a mundane conjunction, meaning that Venus is receiving resources from Saturn, an indication of huge wealth.
Valens also mentioned to examine the Place of Acquisition. In Bezos’s chart, Jupiter presents there. It’s worth mentioning that if Bezos was born at 11:33 AM, two malefics would be present there. This is an argument against the 11:33 AM birthtime.
William Lilly, a Renaissance astrologer, emphasized the sign on the 2nd house cusp and its ruler. In Bezos’s case, Moon is received by a strong Jupiter, another indication of huge wealth.
In the next post, I’ll use predictive techniques to examine major events in Bezos’s life, and explain why 3:52 PM is the correct birthtime instead of 11:33 AM.
